How to Set Up SMS Communication in MYBOS

From 1 July 2026, SMS Sender IDs must be registered by an approved telco. MYBOS offers four sender options: MYBOS ID, a verified mobile number, an unbranded number, or a registered Sender ID. Unregistered Sender IDs may appear as ‘Unverified’, and senders can be managed in Settings > SMS Notification.

Important SMS Changes Coming to MYBOS

From 1 July 2026, new Australian regulations will require all SMS Sender IDs to be registered with an approved telco to help protect people from SMS scams and fraud. As a result, all SMS IDs will need to be registered with the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA).

MYBOS sends SMS broadcasts through FDX, who will assist with registering your Sender IDs with the ACMA. To help you prepare for these changes, MYBOS has introduced four options for sending SMS broadcasts.

  • MYBOS → When selected, all SMS will be sent using MYBOS as the ID. This is also the default setting and when chosen no configuration is required.
  • Verified Mobile Number → Send SMS broadcasts using a mobile number you own. Recipients can reply directly to these messages, and no ACMA Sender ID registration is required.
  • Unbranded Number → When selected, SMS will be sent from +61488824917
  • Sender ID → If you currently send SMS broadcasts using a company name, building name, or other custom sender ID, it must now be registered to comply with the new regulations.

After 1 July, any SMS sent using an unregistered Sender ID may appear as "Unverified" to recipients, which can reduce trust and delivery effectiveness.

How to Configure SMS Broadcast Communication in MYBOS

Step 1:  In the MYBOS Building Manager Portal, select the Settings feature on the left hand side menu.

Step 2: Select the SMS Notification menu under the Settings section.

Step 3: If no numbers have been configured, the screen will be blank. To begin adding the SMS ID, click Add Sender in the top right.

Step 4: A pop up titled Add Sender will appear. There are two options to configure, Sender ID and Mobile #

Step 5: If Sender ID is selected, it will need to be registered. MYBOS uses FDX to send SMS broadcasts, and they will assist with registering your Sender IDs with ACMA. If the Sender ID is not registered, it will be sent to residents as 'Unverified'.

💡 Registering a Custom Sender ID

If you would like to use a custom Sender ID instead of MYBOS or a verified mobile number, it will need to be registered before it can be used for SMS broadcasts.

There are two registration pathways:

  • Registered Business Name – If your Sender ID matches your registered company or business name (or a variation of it).
  • Legitimate Use Application – If your Sender ID is not a registered business name but you can demonstrate a legitimate right to use it (for example, a building name or brand associated with a domain you own).

For step-by-step instructions on how to register a Sender ID, please refer to our Sender ID Registration Guide.

Step 6: Selecting Mobile # will allow you to send broadcasts through a verified number. Residents can also reply to the SMS broadcasts if this option is selected. Fill out the details of the Mobile Number and click Send Verification Code to begin the verification process.

Step 7: Enter the received verification code and click Verify to confirm.

Step 8: After the number is set up, you can select to set the sender as the default for broadcasts, keys and parcels by clicking the star.

Step 9: When creating an community broadcast, you can select your verified sender under the SMS Sender option. Available choices will include the default MYBOS sender, as well as any verified mobile numbers or registered Sender IDs that have been set up for your account.
